Tony Mallgren provides personalized legal services to individuals and their companies with an emphasis on tax planning and structuring. These services included the integration of their business and personal tax, estate and financial matters. Many of his clients are involved in various types of real estate matters, including commercial real estate purchases, sales, 1031 exchanges, financing and residential construction. His practice also involves advising those individuals in setting up limited liability companies, corporations, partnerships, and trusts for liability protection, succession planning and other family planning matters. He has also represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and Tax Court.
Tony received his B.A. degree in political science from Stanford University in 1974, his J.D. degree from Arizona State University in 1977, and his Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from the University of Denver in 1981. He was admitted to practice in the State of Colorado and before the Tax Court and Federal District Courts in May 1978.
Tony was an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Graduate Tax Program in 1983 and 1984. Early in his career, Tony authored or co-authored a number of published articles on tax and business ownership matters. He was a frequent lecturer on such subjects as ACreative Real Estate Planning and ACompensation Planning. He was a lecturer at the 31st Annual University of Denver Tax Institute on Creative Tax Planning for Real Estate; to the Colorado Society of C.P.A.s in 1983 on Participating Financing Arrangements; and to the Colorado Annual Real Estate Symposium on Participating Financing Arrangements. He also presented a series of lectures on the integration of business planning and estate planning to smaller professional groups, and was a frequent participant in estate planning, limited liability company and partnership forums.
In June 1978, Tony entered private practice where he advised clients on the formation and ownership of corporations and partnerships for the operation of various closely held businesses and real estate. After working for a larger downtown Denver law firm for ten years, in 1990 he formed his own law firm to provide a more personal and efficient approach to his clients. He joined Illumine Legal in early 2026.
Tony and his wife enjoy traveling and playing golf at various locations in the West and Midwest. They also spend time traveling to various national parks in the West.
